A very worn and thin 1787 or 1797 bronze Spanish coin was in a roll of quarters. Wish I still had it. It was my oldest coin in my collection and I don't know what it was exactly. It was the size of a quarter in diameter and was not gold I am sure but it was a very light bronze or yellow brass in color. Anyone know what it could have been? I am pretty sure it was 1787.
I want to find another and buy one in higher grade.

I can't find it and it must have gone with a box lot. I had it many years ago. Yes it looked like that but much more worn. I think the portrait would be correct. I remember it was very close to a quarter in size and was not silver unless silver can look sort of yellow. I really doubt it was gold because it was light.
Isn't that a Great Britain coin you show? I think mine had Spanish on it.

The best part about finding old coins in your change is the look you get when you ask them if you can look through their till!
very recently found a 1955 Canadian dime and I have also gotten a 1933 penny!

Just yesterday I got a 1941, 1945 and 1946 penny in my change. All in very good shape. Almost 70 years of history and still making the rounds.

In 2000 I got a 1900 Queen Victoria dime from the Post Office in change. They saved it specially for me. It was very worn, but the date could still be read.

The oldest Canadian I have found in a roll is 1943 for penny, and 1961 for half dollar and 1980 something for a quarter. Have not kept too good of track for the other Canadian denominations but I know I have found one or two here and there.

A good portion of my early collection came from my metal detecting days. I still have the odd jar of Victorian through George V coins hanging about and about a dozen or so early tokens. To me 'a find is a find' whether it's in your pocket or in the ground.
