Are there any other Grandmothers out there that are casually collecting Cdn coins for their grandkids. If so, how goes the battle.

I'm a grandpa with 3 young grandchildren. I'm ready to help them out with all sorts of numismatic goodies if they show the slightest interest. I started having an interest in collecting coins when I was 6. My oldest grandson will be 5 next month. I expect I will take him to his first coin show sometime this year. It will be fun!

I'm a grandad that's put together 7 Lincoln Wheat cent albums together for my grand kids. Hopefully at least one of them will catch the bug so I can leave my collection to (a) family member(s) that will continue to grow the collection I've started.

Rokinkar, you've brought up a thought-provoking topic. How do we spark coin fever in the younger generations? I don't hold the key so I'll just share afew thoughts. I'm a grandmother as well.
My current interest in the hobby was a result of childhood memories. My dad was a collector and I recall helping him to sort through coins, placing them in tubes, the excitement when he found something unique and later participating in the search for rarer varieties. While I enjoyed the hunt on his behalf, it was his hobby, not mine. It was only several decades when I was much older that I began to somehow get hooked.
So I've attempted to apply the same strategy with my grandson. In the summer when he stays over he helps me. Sometimes it's with photos, inserting coins into 2x2s or albums and one summer we had great fun searching through rolls of loonies to fill all the spots in a loonie coin book. I eventually had to buy a few to complete the set and when a new year rolls around, I leave it to him to keep the set current. But I haven't handed it over yet because he's only 12. I have no idea if he'll become a collector but I think there's a greater chance if I'm able to actively involve him as a child in some way.

This thread is full of good vibes. My children haven't had kids, yet. I hope they do when ready. For now, I have a step granddaughter, and she is a treasure.

I originally started collecting Cdn circulation coins for both of my daughters every year. When I became a grandmother, I started a smaller collection for the grandkids. In 2017, I had another two grandbabies. This means starting a collection for them. Unfortunately, I have some making up to do as parts are bare.

That's how I started, one for me then I thought 'what am I going to leave my kids' so I started 3 sets for them. Then I thought 'what about the grandkids' so I started 7 more. They all know I have them for them and they can look and add any coin they like. A couple have add some that's good. Youngest is now 18 and 2 of the older ones want to know when they can get the albums and where to cash them in - I will be dead when they get them.

That's how I got the bug, Grandma gave me a 1913_P Type I Buffalo BU Rember the Battle ship Maine 1898 a 1904 Roosevelt token, and ticket to the GOP National Convention in 1892 plus others. Grandpa come from England in 1880`s and he left me a 1797 Cartwheel slick A/G and 1860 and 65 farthings XF+ That got me into the coins. Beside my paper route in Iowa I have one Grandson with the like doing well at 15 now with my LWC

As I mentioned, I started with my two daughters and now have started four more albums for my grandkids. My daughters who are now over 30 with their own families, I asked if they wanted their albums so they could continue them. The answer from both of them was NO. But they still wanted me to collect for them. I guess they both thought it would be too much work. But in saying that I do like doing it. I guess I have the coin collecting bug.
