Quote: Nice find Matchbox ! was it the regular 1947 Canadian cent? cause there is 3 variety of it Blunt 7, Maple leaf Blunt 7, maple leaf Pointed 7 .
For the 1870 5 cent simply WOW! what variety it is ? Wide Rims or Narrow Rims ? Can youu post a picture of that incredible found please? SilverMaple. here's a few scans for you. The first two are of the 1870 five cent piece I found on the floor of a warehouse in 1981, and the third is 1947 penny lurking in the roll. I hope you can see these scans well enough to give you the answers.

Thanks Matchbox for the pictures! Its a beautiful 5 cent you got here, mintage of 2800000, 21 leafs reverse, the picture is a bit small but ill say its a 1870 NARROW RIMS cause I can see the distance between the rim Denticles and the leafs. In that Case you Have the Queen portrait :F2 The hair to the side of the ear has a faint 'S' curl to the braid.I can't clearly see cause picture is to small but I suposse it is as I can confirm it's a Narrow rims. If it were a Wide Rims the Denticles would have been closer to the leafs. Beautiful 5 Cents ! Don't forget to tell me if you sell it hahaha For the 1947 canada cent, you have a Pointed 7 Near Maple Leaf (ML Pt 7). Nice find !

No pictures or specifics, since the coins are at home and I'm not, but I did find a change-purse full of old Canadian coins from the 1930's. Oldest in odd change would be a Mercury dime and a Buffalo nickel. Can't remember the years for sure, but I believe the dime is 27.

1860 Young Victoria bronze farthing - just last week. It looks almost like a Cdn. penny size. I was elated! Also 1887 Victoria 10cent piece was the first old coin I found in change when I worked as cashier at Loblaws grocery store. Wish I could have kept all the neat change back then but was too broke back then. Recently - best find Cdn. is 1935 5 cent piece in MS 63 (had it graded).

The better percentage of my collection in number, not value, I picked out of my vending route, probably 1000+ PCs. That would exclude bullion and foreign , mostly quarters, nickles, dimes some pennies from 1872 1c Indian head to numerous proof quarters from the 70s to 90s so many I started thinking the mint was dumping over stock or sub grade into circulation.I completed 90% of CDN/US sm cent 5c CDN 1922 to 2000/US Jefferson. CDN, 25C Edward to 2000,

I found a 1916 dime in change about a year back. That's the oldest I have ever gotten and it was from tobacco shop.

I remember long before I started any interest in coin collecting, I was about 7 years of age and I found a strange silver coin in my change where I could not discern the date. Now that I know my Monarchs, I believe it was a a King Edward quarter, however, date unknown. (1902<?>1910) This was some 40+ years ago, so what I see in my head today maybe totally different than what I held in my hands back in the 1960's. Those days are certainly long gone. Now everything we buy is either slabbed or body bagged! Glenn from Canada

Just started collecting in April, have been buying penny and nickel rolls to start, so far the earliest I have found is a 1932 American wheatie.

Family friend found British George 111 shilling 1817, in F condition.
That was back in about 1960, and the coin at the time was still legal tender.
