Counterfeit/Fake Silver Eagles? - Coin Community Forum

halltrade New Member United States 0 Posts	Posted 03/01/2010 2:56 pm Hello, This is my first post. I have the complete set of the Silver Eagle Dollars. Lately I have heard about the fake ones, so I was wondering about the ones that I have brought down thru the years. From what I can find out from searching Google, the Silver Eagle should weight 31.101 grams, with no more variance than 1/10 of a gram. I brought a digital scale and after weighing each one, the following is what I found: They range from 31.17 to 31.72. I brought them all from coin dealers in Minneapolis, MN, Austin, TX, and Ft Smith, AR. None from the internet. I am now confused. Do I have some fakes? Ron Report this Post to the Staff

I would find it hard to believe every one you have (even though you do not mention how many this is) would be overweight, especially since you got them from local dealers. Conder101 Bedrock of the Community United States 17884 Posts	Posted 03/02/2010 2:12 pm I don't know the tolerance on the siver eagles either , but I do know the 31.1 gram weight would be the MINIMUM weight allowed. So far all of the counterfeit ASE that I have seen have been significantly UNDERWEIGHT and visually readily apparent. Report this Post to the Staff
