Can Someone Explain: Numismedia Silver Eagle Price

LearningAboutCoins New Member United States 12 Posts	Posted 03/23/2010 7:01 pm Silver closed up 3 cents today at $17.02, but Numismedia prices a 1987 1 oz. Silver Eagle at $17.00. Even a generic one ounce round would sell for more than $17.00. There is a premium on Silver Eagles. In my area, dealers charge $2.75 over spot and up for these. Online dealers I have looked at are selling Eagles for spot plus $1.75 and up. Are you sure about the prices you listed? biokemist6 Bedrock of the Community United States 12437 Posts	Posted 03/24/2010 12:23 pm The value you are quoting is for MS60 which is an unrealistic grade for a SAE in the vast majority of cases. I would say that an MS60 would only be worth silver value(which is now back under $17 as I type this) because that would be an ugly dog of a coin but your typical SAE will grade MS65-68 if it has not been mishandled. When you correct the value for the appropriate grade range, you get Numismedia values of $22-29. Report this Post to the Staff
