I'm still on page 11, so forgive me if these have been asked:
badthad, do you have any intention of selling this through other supply distributors?
Where's the b4 1947 half?
Does it really make the large cent that much darker, or is that the photography?

Quote: Suppose I have a coin with a light bit of verdigris on in in an airtight. If I take it out of VC it, can I put it back into the same airtight with no ill effects, or should I get a new airtight for it to try to prevent recontamination?
Yes, absolutely no problem. As long as you let the coin fully dry, it's good to go. The IHC I posted in this thread was treated, dried and put in an airtite where it's been for almost a year now. I've kept a close eye on it and it looks exactly the same still today. I've actually done this with about 20 different coins, they are all fine....in fact, I recommend using an airtite afterward for the ultimate in protection.

VC has been for sale at Wizard Coin Supply for almost a year now. I have no idea about the half. All of my pictures are unmodified and taken with the exact same camera using the same light. The large cent became dark after treatment and drying. VC tends to slightly darken certain patinas. In this case it was impossible to see what the coin really looked like under the verdigris/debris layer until it was removed.

I've got a 1865 Two Center coming to me in the mail with a wee bit of verdigris corrosion on the reverse and a kind of milky/cloudy 1980 P Kennedy half that could have a nice gunmetal blue tone to it if the clouds were gone. Once I get my paycheck I'll try to order some :D. I'll post before and after pics once I do.

Not sure if it will be effective on your half. It's not designed to remove haze due to VC's gentle nature. Typically, that requires a much stronger treatment such as an acid-thiourea dip.

Quote: I have never given much thought to conservation until now and this has been an interesting process to observe. I never understood why conservation, preservation and restoration of coins wasn't practiced to a greater degree even 50 years ago. Look at any other serious collectable, and museums have curators spending all day keeping them in nice shape.

BT-
Have you checked the info on verdigris at wiki, and either posted new or added to it? There might be some way to get a tie-in.

Quote: 1924-D - Came back as questionable color, no fault of VC, oh well....still a nice coin. Obviously, you're no rookie when it comes to LWC, so I would think you'd know questionable color when you see it. Do you disagree with that observation (and did they return the coin unslobbed because of it)?

Maybe I'll try it on my slimed halves.

VC is not for proof coins. Follow biokemist's advice, it's dead on correct. There's no need for anything more than acetone for your problem.

Could verdicare bring the statue of liberty back to it's original color if we used enough of it?
