What do you think - double die or not?
(I have check pictures in the net but direction of divergence of the letters is the opposite for this variety).

bobo, it is almost impossible to tell with the lighting on the devises. Can you play with the lighting and gives us other pics? Right now, I don't think so.

I don't think so, bobo. There appears to be be some minor Machine Doubling (MD) in the "U" in Trust. What you are seeing above or between the letters and the rim in Trust is Die Deterioration. It appears that this die is moving from MDS (mid die state) to late die state (LDS). What you see is the edges of the incused devises on the die starting to wear. The sharp edges are wearing down and developing a radius which presents as a shadow on the devise.

I vote for Machine Doubling too. On a separate note, I wish everyone on ebay could take their pictures as good as you.

Thanks:)
I accept this, but 99% only, because on one website says about this coin that "Low grades may not show
signs of doubling due to wear. " and "Doubling can be seen primarily on the
date and IN GOD WE TRUST. ".
So maybe there are 1% probability to be scarce variety:)
I have new pics with magnifying glass:

In that grade, a 1917 DDO-1 would be fairly obvious. you'd see doubling in the 9 and 7 for sure. Yours is a normal 1917.

Bobo, just few comments.

1) Your coin is not a low grade coin.

2) On the 1917 DDO, the doubling appears on the right side of the letters. You have Machine Doubling on the left side of letters.

3) Nic pics! What kind of camera are you using?

Wow, you are getting pretty good, up-close detail with that little point-and-shoot camera.

steve199, it is not hard but need many pictures and 40-50 Wats lamp 5 to 10 sm from the coin, and makro regime. This picture is on one my interesting coin UK penny from 1887, the "I" left ov "V" is only 0.3-0.35 mm measure! The best picture after over 200-300 pics
