For those who are planning on collecting these Parks Qtrs., I'm curious as to what methods will be employed to do so. This "talk" has been spread all around the forum regarding these whenever they come up....I thought I would put a "pointed" area of discussion with them here. Are you going to buy the 100/1000 coin bags both P&D ? Are you going to buy the P&D Two Roll Sets every time a new one comes out ? Are you just going to go on ebay and hope that there isn't a huge premium there for some very low mintage ones within the 11 year run ? Are you only going to hit the coin shop to secure these ? Coin shows ? Keep in mind (for those who don't know) You WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET THESE FROM YOUR BANK THE SAME WAY YOU DID THE State Quarters ! They're NOT going to have them for you in rolls.....they'll be mixed with everything else this time. And if there are some low mintage ones (like last years Dimes & Nickels) then it would be next to impossible to score any "from the wild". (let alone both P&D) So.....these are the unique issues here with these.... I don't really know what " I " ought to do ......or even " IF " I should do.... I'm still struggling with the best way to proceed with these. The way I see it......three BIG issues here :Getting Biz. strikes from circulation could be next to impossible for many of these potentially being a very low mintage throughout the 11 year run.....and getting them in BU condition is another problem....and getting both Mints would be the third problem.I don't want to pay the US Mints premium for the 100 coin Bags.... OR ....the Two Roll Sets.....and then "PLUS" shipping and handling every single time a new one comes out....... Either way...... That's an awfully EXPENSIVE PROPOSITION TO PLAN ON DOING FOR THE ENTIRE 11 YEAR PROGRAM ! .....It's a "risk" paying that kind of money in total.....and likely not the most "cost effective" way to get these Business Strike BU's from the Mint. Maybe I could just rely on a trip to a coin shop every few months for 11 years ? .....coin shows ? .....and hope that there isn't some kind of unforeseen premium from there too ? Decisions should be made very soon on what one wants to do with a collection of these.... I certainly don't know how or what " I " want to do with them yet.... Edited by eaglefoot 04/20/2010 5:06 pm

I think I'm just going to try and collect P mint from the local banks and trade for D mint. I just can't afford the mints price on all of them.
As a thought, I'd be willing to commit to splitting a bag with some others. Someone order a bag of each and split it and ship 10 to the other 9 people for cost and shipping. But I fear it would be a hassle for the person ordering the bags.

The mint is just trying to rip us coin collectors off by selling us worthless coins at above melt. The more money we buy from them, the more money they make. Now, instead of 2 a year(P & D) for quarters, we are buying 10. I didn't collect State Quarters and I won't collect these either.

I will get them in the Proof and mint set when they are available.

I will collect a single P and D business strike from circulation, just like I did for the Statehood Quarters. I will collect a clad and silver proof from the annual sets. I am still not sold on the satin finish coin in the mint sets, although I have to consider that the America the Beautiful Quarters will have them from the start (unlike the Statehood Quarters, which started halfway through). If they would sell a mint set with just the quarters (like they do with the proof set), then I would most likely collect them as well.

Business Strikes! No one seems to care right now about how hard it is to get these in all the modern coinage. Everyone just puts the satins in there danscos and says oh, look how pretty. Thats great for them and I have nothing against it. I have them too! But the business strikes in high grades are something that I am striving for. Look back at the special mint sets of the past like the early 60's and 80's. Those business strike coins are hard to come by and the premium is high, especially if you want high grade ones!
I am collecting the two roll sets because I think the business strikes will have value. Especially if the mint stops this whole satin finish madness one day. Ten years from now I think there will be plenty of mint sets available but higher grade business strikes will definitely have premiums. IMO

Since these are designed to be collectors' coins, I'll probably just buy raw singles that appeal to me - nevermind mintages and whatnot. One with a large mirrored field or intricate artwork would appeal to me. Finish is not all that important for me since it would only change the art's quality. I will, however, get the best specimen possible for its availability at the time.
This series is going to be cherrypicked HARD so all you hardcore collectors are gonna have to pony up.
OP (eaglefoot): Are they really going to be mixed in with all the other rolls from the get-go, or will it take years?

I bet with "some" issues it will take YEARS (like any low mintage ones)....and I bet with others it will be fairly immediate.....Needless to say, it will be an UNRELIABLE CONGLOMERATE M.E.S.S. I'm sure, as far as being able to count on "consistency" to collect them in BU from circulation !

Quote: just think if the Mint ended the Satin Finish program "halfway through" the America the Beautiful series Oh, great, now you have me second guessing my idea! I will get an America the Beautiful P/D album first; filling the holes as I find them. Meanwhile, I will purchase all of the proofs as they come out. When the series is complete, I will put them in an album. I will get the satin finish coins as well, but won't get an album until I know that it will be a complete one.

I'll order mint sets.
I am intrigued by fatcat's idea though... I'm off to get my calculator.

As difficult as the mint is making it,the whole series may be a colossal flop like the Presidential dollars. People in general are dumping coins these days not collecting them(note the number of high grade State Quarters all of a sudden appearing in change)so the mint may be shooting themselves in the foot with this one. That often happens when greed overtakes logic and/or reason in decision-making.

Quote:the whole series may be a colossal flop like the Presidential dollars. Yes, that's certainly possible ! It would be wise for everyone pursuing these to be "cautious" to say the least, and not spend too much money "investing" in them, for something that might be a "flop". I think JB has the "safest" theory with these.... Just collecting "one" Denver and "one" Philly coin for the album from circulation for the Business Strikes. And the others from Mint & Proof Sets. But yeah, I'd agree......everyone should be very "wary" if they plan to try to make money here and "invest" with these Parks Qtrs., rather than just focus on the best way to "collect" them, as one goes along, purely for the "enjoyment of the hobby".So if it is just ones nature to collect and keep up with all Modern coinage, then that's what "this" thread is about....the best way to do that. ebay "profiteers" probably shouldn't make any gambles regarding this new 11 year run series !....but....that's in their nature, generally, as well, to try it.

As far as " logic & reasoning" thrown to the wayside concerning "buying tactics" with these ..... yup... .. there will be plenty of folks buying 54 Silver Proof Sets, I'm sure, and waiting for the hot prarie fire ebay prices to try to make some money.....and they might be sorely disappointed if/when this "price bounce" ends up never happening ! I agree ! Quote:note the number of high grade State Quarters all of a sudden appearing in change)so the mint may be shooting themselves in the foot with this one I'm actually VERY VERY HAPPY about this though ..... Because it allows me to "upgrade" my "circulation collection" of them ! ... Always lookin' to upgrade stuff.... ....

The answer to your questions is very simple: No! I was going to buy the pair sets of 2009 cents, until I saw the price, from the mint. I didn't but early, and sure enough, later they started comijng out in quantities thar I wanted, and at FACE value. The same thing with the "log". It is much harder to find, but I still get them at face. I see no justification for the price the mint is charging for any of the cents. And especially the zincoln. Would you buy rotten tomatos? Why buy "rotten cents"? Now for the "Quarters", I will not go into those, because there is no "meaning" to them. Sure the parks are nice, but still only a park. Does anyone say I was born in "Central park"? Or "Grand Canyon National Park". No. They were born in a STATE, and that is what it mweans to each ofus, who collected the State Quarter Series. No, I won't be bothered with them. I have my hands full, just trying to complete my FE/IHCV folders. Dick

I'll stick with the 5 oz. versions! Seriously, I hope there's some left when I go to the Mint this Friday. They've already had the " America the Beautiful Quarters" banners up next to the Denver Mint for 3 weeks now! Quote:hockingzig: note the number of high grade State Quarters all of a sudden appearing in change Well there is this situation called a 'recession', that's still going on! As I've noted before, a large reduction in the populations of BU State Quarters would actually be good news for those who can afford to hold onto them through this recessionary phase.
