Can someone tell me what kind of error this is? Is this considered a "stretch strike"?

Looks like an encounter-with-a-vise error to me.

I agrees with pls

I can't for the life me think of anything at a mint that would cause that WITHOUT defacing the main part of the coin as well.

That's a new one!

Is there much difference in the minting process in Canada than in the US?

Not that I'm aware of. I have no doubt one or either have or could have minted the others coins without us noticing (aside from the obvious Canadian ten cent piece that was for sure partially US minted). Though with the Winnipeg expansion and Canada minting for so many other countries the two mint operations are actually in direct competition on the global market.

I have a German old Penny from the late 1800 that looks like a dogs breakfast..., not unlike this cent.
And I know, I just know, some of you guys would say: basement job...... but, a recognized and reputable German expert is offering me 150 EURO for it.....
anyone like to see it? I could post the images....I have the coin...
sometimes there is NO immediate explanation....., but there might be....

Wow! That's nice!

I don't know how they minted coins in 1892 in Germany, but it looks like an off-center strike to me. Looks like it was laying halfway between the dies in the coining press when struck and bent from the pressure.

I'm no pro by any means, but I wouldn't have thought hammer job.

I'm sure the pros will chime in soon, if not, start a thread in the world forum. I'd like to know! That looks sweet!

Agreed. Nice error HHB. That sounds like a very decent offer - but I know nothing of German error prices.
But the OP is still showing a post mint squeeze.
