Just had to post and tell the world. I've been collecting coins since a little kid, but I have never stayed focused long enough to complete any sort of set or fill a book. Well, I finally filled the last hole in my UNC ASE Dansco. I have 'em all. 1986 to 2010, including both business strikes and burnished W strikes for the years 2006-2008... AND, wait for it... I even have 3 2008s. The business, burnish, and the 08/07. So as far as UNC sets go, I think I have it covered. Now I am thinking about switching up from the 7100 (unc) to the 8100 Dansco (unc & proof). Nah, maybe later. I want to bask in the completeness of the 7100 before I start an 8100 and once again only have a partial set. As a side note... I found my first 2010 (p) cent in circulation today. It's a beautiful day to be alive. Dave

Ratio411 Congrats of the completion of your ASE set. I have the same problem, starting sets and not getting the completed. I have completed 3 sets this past 6 months .. so I know how good it feels

What do you folks think a complete UNC set is worth? The coins are not likely MS70s or anything, a couple even have some minor milk spots, but they are better than the average ASE. For some reason folks apparently don't think twice about tossing ASEs around, or putting grubby fingerprints all over them. I noticed in making this set that a TRUELY nice ASE is fairly hard to find. When you look through just about any dealer's supply, 9 out of 10 are just dirty coins to some degree. Be it dents or fingerprints, not to mention ugly toning from bad storage situations. Any dope could go out and buy one of each year, but it would be an ugly set when it was done judging from the bulk of the coins out there. I even shopped a couple of dealers that just dumped the coins out in a clatter when I asked to look at them, or even pulled the coins out with fingers to the surfaces. I just cringed everytime that happenend. Needless to say, those dealers rarely had any that were good enough for a Dansco. Anyway, the coins are all nice. There are one or two that I can upgrade now that I don't have any open holes to fill. I did a tally and I spent $686 for every coin, the Dansco, and the Dansco sleeve. I want to say that it should be worth about a grand to the right person. Sound about right?

Good job ratio! I think a lot of us have the same "focus" problem. I am going to try and complete my ASE's as well in the near term. Hopefully I will be posting right behind you shortly!

As for pics... I don't have any of the complete set, and ones I do have previously are not good quality. I will attach a sample pic of one of the pages. It shows the page that I had to write in the dates for the W mint marks and the 08/07. Dansco doesn't see fit to put the W mint marks in the book. I can understand maybe not putting the 08/07, but the Ws should have been in the 7100. The 05 in this pic is one of the worst ones in the set, and to top it off, the milk spot on the front shows up better in this pic than in person.

Scooby: I think that if you have the ability to put back 20 bux a week, the ASE UNC set is probably one of the easier ones to start with. I think if you are in a bigger city, you could possibly have better luck with finding nice ASEs. I am in a smaller city/town, and my pool of available ASEs at any given time is relatively small. Good luck!

Quote: What do you folks think a complete UNC set is worth? The set is not worth more than the sum of its parts. I'd bet most of times a set of coins will pull in more if it the parts are sold individually, because the potential buyers are not being forced to buy the parts they may not be interested in. All that said, you probably know what your coins are worth as much as anyone else.

ratio, my set is complete through '99 and all of them are PCGS MS69, including the variety. I know some of you will cringe, but I bought them when I first started collecting (because they were purdy), and didn't really know any better. So, now I want to go ahead and complete the set as slabbed '69's. I'm ready to buy them all, I've just been putting it off thinking, "I can always get them" (hence the focus part). I think I might post in the want-to-buy forum. Maybe someone has all the ones I need and I can get them all at once!
