in this lot are 3 1940-d washingtons and have about 2.8 million minted and listed in the Red Book as 24 each. I bought these to fill 2 spaces so it works either way

All that really matters in the end is this......Are you happy with them? If so then you got a good deal.

1940-D quarters are only worth melt, perhaps a slight premium for being an early date. Greysheet lists it at $3.45 in Good. The Red Book is very overpriced in most instances.

The RedBook $24 value given for the 1940-D is for EF coins, but they are only worth about melt in VG condition. After looking at the greysheet, it appears the 1940-D quarter is relatively rare in grades VF and above.
