I went in mainly for supplies, but asked to skim through the junk silver buckets of dimes, quarters and halves anyway.
Ended up with 6 proof Roosevelts at 12x face, an MS 60+ 1948S Washington for 12x face and an AU 1948 and 1949 Franklins at 11x face.
Bought up all 28 of the mercuries he had at 12x face also, along with a 500 count bag of wheats for $7. I doubt there will be anything in the wheats, but I'm working on rolls of every year, so it should help.
Another nice day at the coin shop, plus some great conversation regarding current politics, economic conditions etc.

I need to find a local coin shop. How do such high grade coins end up in the junk bucket? :-)

Premium Quality Coin is located in Northstar Skyway in downtown Mpls. I have been to valleycoin but not Premium. There are a few shows around the Twin Cities with the MOON (big state convention) show in October being the biggest. I will also keep you informed of shows down my way.

Dude, my coin shop BUYS 90% silver for over 12X face, what a great deal! (they also never have halves in the junk silver bin because a few bullion investors clean it out as soon as it comes in.)

I was shocked on the wheats too, as thats barely over face. He did acknowledge that they'd all be mid 30's through 50's. There was a big show last weekend, and he stated they had their biggest selling flurry in a couple of years, with people buying up silver and gold in swarms.
Normally he'll have 600 or more dimes in his junk bin, today there was less than 50. Also he normally has a couple hundred halves and today there were only about 25. Same with quarters, as he said he sold approximately 300 "junk" quarters for $3.25 each at the show.

Nice find on the wheaties!
I sure do get jealous listening to all the stories about local coin stores. I have one, kind of. No junk bins, most items way overpriced, very small selection. In fact, the last time I was there, about a month ago, they had no dimes. None. Zero. Didn't know when they would get any more. Plus they are open from Monday-Friday, 9 am-5 pm. Of course, I'm at work at those times. I've pretty mch given up on them.
I don't know what I'd do if I ever got to skim through buckets of junk silver. I'd probably empty my saving account

My local dealer usually has a couple bags of junk silver he lets me root thru, he just does not have the time to sort thru it all and it gets bought up as fast as it comes in. He pays 8X and sells at 13.5X.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72

This particular dealer sold to me at 14x face when I first started going there, but I knew that repeat business and building a repoire with him would help. I'm always friendly, respectful of his shop, etc. This has paid off over time, as he routinely cuts me a nice deal. He buys silver at 10x face, and sells for a profit, usually at 13-14x face, with regular customers getting a better deal most of the time. IMO - he is high on some things, so I choose not to buy those (gold and ASE's).

Yeah, it is a good idea to get a nice rapport going with your local dealer if he is a decent sort. Last time I was in there, he let me buy a few silver quarters at his buy price.
