1979 1 Cent Varities X 4 ? - Coin Community Forum

larryt Valued Member Canada 51 Posts	Posted 07/15/2010 10:20 am I found a small envelope with this on the outside: 4 x 1979 1c. var. Inside are 4 1979 pennies in 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 cardboard folders and they are labeled 1, 2, 3, & 4. Being a new collector I looked in the 2011 Charlton and there are no varieties listed. splatto Valued Member Canada 426 Posts	Posted 07/15/2010 1:21 pm There is a 1979 variety with a reengraved/double date/whatever. Do you have a loupe? Examine the dates with it. I'm guessing one is the common coin and the other three have various degrees of doubling on the date. Also check if the dies are aligned correctly. Other than those suggestions, I can't offer any information on what they might be. Report this Post to the Staff

laconic Valued Member Canada 168 Posts	Posted 07/16/2010 08:49 am I suspect the previous owner labeled them 1,2,3,4 just for inventory purposes. For some of my duplicate coins, I write a small number on the back in between the staple so I know which one is which from my spreadsheets. Report this Post to the Staff
