I just did a search "Canada 1837 1/2 penny token" and saw many between 15-66, depending who was doing the sqeezing. The one below, the guy's asking 16.99

This is a Quebec Bank (name on the wreath ribbon)token of 1837. IT IS Br 522 (Breton catalogue). HW179 (Haxby Willey). Don't have my Charlton handy to give you all the others right now. Value is under $5.00.
There was a series of 4 of these tokens with Bank of Montreal, City Bank, Banque du Peuple, and Quebec Bank on the ribbons, and in 1/2 Penny and 1 Penny values. The Bank of Montreal is still in existence. Struck by Boulton and Watt(Birmingham, England) in 1838. Amount issued 240,000.

Thanks for the info, I have to admit though that with such a small mintage Iam a bit surprised that the value is so low.

I have found it fairly easy to pick up the half penny and 1 penny tokens. despite the lower mintages a fair few seem to have survived. I too and surprised they don't sell for more...

The token coinage of Canada, including your piece, is listed in 1800's Krause.
