Pick up a penny.
If it takes you 1 second to grab it up during your
travels, you have earned $36.00 an hour for your time.

More and more, people discard cents.

I find on average six cents a day lying on the ground. Not going to quit my day job.

I don't think I have ever seen $36 in pennies lying around, I would spend more than a second looking for one to pick up.

3600 times an hour, metal detecting is pretty good exercise, but that would be brutal on me. I could stand to lose a pound or two though. Well, really 20.

Sadly some people do not think that picking them up is worth their time to stop and pick them up.
I heard a report somewhere....I think on the radio one morning (they do useless factoids sometimes) That if Bill Gates were to drop a a hundred dollar bill, For what he is worth, It would not be worth his effort nor cost effective to stop and pick it up.
It would be nice for him to drop a few in front of me now and again.

The only place I know where there is that much money and tons more is in the water of "It's a Small World" at Disney World. I wish they gave me permission to go there with a bucket and five minutes. I can't imagine how much money is actually there.

I've seen a lot of coins in fountains. I assume they would frown on people wading in to fish them out.

I heard a report that the time it takes to see and pick up a penny actually would not even pay minimum wage if you were to find one every step.

That's less than minimum wage.

It would sure take quick reflexes to bend to ground level,
grab a coin, and stand back up; all done in one second's time!

Too much exercise for even that kind of money. Can I put gum on the bottom of my shoes and pick them up that way?

Well, I never said that you would find that many laying around.
Just that you make good money for that one moment that you pick one
up that is laying in your path.

I pick up any that I find. I love walking junkyards (I am into cars)
and when I stop at a car to check out the parts, I usually find piles
of pennies, and sometimes larger coinage. I often leave my favorite
junkyard with at least 100 pennies everytime I visit. A couple times
I have left with around 5 bux when I luck up on larger demoninations.

Then I sort the zinc, copper, and the occaisional wheatie.

I don't know why I posted this. Just for fun I guess.

Edit:
To clarify...
I don't go to the yard and look in every car.
I only look in cars that peak my interest, and
when I do, I just grab the change out of that
car. I go for the cars, not the change. The coins
are just a side benefit. I could probably haul
some good money if I went through every single
car there just for coins, but then I'd also
feel like I was ripping off the yard owner taking
so much money. This guy doesn't have to let me
roam his yard. It's not a 'u-pull' type yard.
