How To Make 36.00 An Hour...

I'm a little superstitious and only pick up pennies if they are face up. When my wife & I are walking, if we see one that's face down, my wife will reach down, turn it face up, and leave it on the ground. Then I pick it up. That rule only applies to pennies. Anything larger, I don't worry about the face down, I just pick them up.

I worked a side job (security) for a rock fest concert. Afterwards I just walked around and started picking up change, started putting them in my coffee cup, then off came the hat and low and behold I ended up with 44.00. Out of the 44 bucks, I found 8 pennies for my collection and 2 silver quarters...The rest I put in my jeep for car washing...haha...Not bad for a lil walk around the arena area...

My father told me a story about when he was a teenager in the 1960's. He was walking down the street with his father and one of his fathers friends. They saw a penny on the ground. The two older gentlemen started discussing the fact that picking up a penny was not even worth it any more. Remember these are guys who went through the great depression! My father picks up the penny and told them "I am in college, I need the money!"

There is a saying that goes something like this. The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. Maybe to you it is just a penny. To me it is a tiny fraction to apply toward my goal of being retired. Besides what if that penny is rare and valuable?
