I am not sure if this is a VF or and EF, but it probably is the former. How would you grade this coin? Thanks!

I would go VF35. The obverse is EF but the reverse brings it down a tad.

Denver and San Francisco mint during the early years of 1917-1928 has always exhibit weakness in the strike normally in the center of obverse and reverse, would be hard to find even wear circulated pieces.
VF 35 indeed.

I agree with "the duke", "macmercury" and "busthalf". VF30-35. The obverse is very nice but the wear on the lower diagonal band causing it to disappear at the upper left wipes you out of any consideration for EF. Additionally, the lack of separation of the lower vertical banding takes away from EF consideration. Still, '17-S is one of the better dates. My $.02
