1958 D Penny Error/Defect? - Coin Community Forum

VegasCoinCollector New Member United States 4 Posts	Posted 08/02/2010 6:27 pm Help Please! Found this in my grandpas coin collection. The defect line travels via LIBERTY but LIBERTY is still intact/visible. What could be the cause of this line? Was it a manufactor defect? Is this worth anything other then face value? Give it some time for some more of the board members to look at it, VegasCoinCollector. A lamination error seems possible, but I don't know what that means for it's value. biokemist6 Bedrock of the Community United States 12437 Posts	Posted 08/03/2010 12:27 am I cannot be 100% certain based upon the provided pic but I would say this was a pre-strike delamination, it looks fairly smooth and the detail is fairly strong. A post-strike delamination would have a grainy texture with only weak mushy details present. Can you get a weight on the coin? A delaminated coin will be light while a coin struck through something will have a normal weight. Report this Post to the Staff
