First I must say that I have never collected paper money. My coin dealer handed me a gift of five $1.00 bills and said that they were Barr notes. I understand that Barr was Secretary of the Treasury at one point and apparently was only in office for a month. Are these worth anything?

Thanks in advance,
~christina

try this ChristinaM this posted alittle bit down from your topic and hopefully will help you out some.. As in Coins (condition is everything) variety as well in notes even in modern notes if you have a signature change it becomes a variety, and also rarity helps. they are worth alittle more, but will be in the future I suspect. If you need anymore help on notes or this topic, you can email me or post here, And I will try to help you in anyway I can

Okay for what I can see EF/Au there is a slight crease above washingtons head and the lower right corner just a little roundness to it.. (only what I can see in the picture) cu for SanFransisco is $4.00 and Ch-Cu is $6.00. Still not Bad for only A Dollar. iwould say put them away in Your collection and In some time they will go UP. Also My book Is dated 2004 and is put out by Whitman. Which is really good. But not considered the top source for this topic. so you can Guestimate at most a 1.00 to 2.oo possible difference, at best.

Dewayne, from what I have gathered it is only the 1963-B series notes.

Jim..The pic is one from SF, the other four that I have are from the Fed in Chicago. My question is, when it comes to paper money, does the issuing branch have an affect on how much its worth similar to the way that some coins that are minted at specific mints command a higher value? (e.g Morgan dollars minted at CC mint)

some times yes because of the amount issued in that respective Branch. And sometimes not.. Also If you have any with a star they worth alittle more. Also does the way I grade the note seem right to you based on what you have in front of you. In this paticul;ar series the only difference in note value / as in relationship to the BEP that issued them Is with Star Notes. They Variey from Place to Place by a $1.00 or $2.00. But in most notes cases YES. Its Almost the same as Coins as far as the different variables that Increase or decrease Value. The Key With Notes is sometimes the Signatures, Bep's(Where it was issued) And Stars of course is an extra that coins do not have.

I might add that when collecting modern notes (1963-present) the best policy is to stick with CU specimens only. Key notes from different series are those blocks with low printings as well as other varieties such as webs, errors etc... And of course I agree the stars are the best especially stars from very low printings.
