Metalman, It looks like their is lines on his face in the pic. If their is not then I would say they are lathe lines. Again I am no expert. Just my opinion. WOLF

If these are lathe lines, why do I see them on Franklin Pierces face? Just curious. WOLF

Because the lines are cut unto the face of the die before the design is hubbed in. The hubbing didn't completely wipe out the lines.

What ever happened with these coins?

I ordered 2 clad proof sets and 2 silver proof sets and I have what I think are lathe lines on 6 of the coins; the Pierce, Lincoln, and Fillmore dollars in 2 of the lenses. The Buchanans look normal. The lines do look slightly different on different coins. Maybe they were stamped out to a greater or lesser degree?

Anyway, I'll post a few pics of mine and hopefully we'll hear back about Metalman's coins.
