Hi I have three of these coins from 1979/1980 that appear to be in silver,they are certainly not cupro nickel,they are prooflike and weigh 12.8 grams,were they produced in silver ?

Without photo is difficult.But some Olympic 1 rouble coins are listed in Krause and they are all cupro nickel.The 5 and 10 rubles from Olympics have silver content.Proof like issues of 1 ruble are also available for 1979-1980 and cost little more than regular issues

Before the Olympic issue there was just a handful of commem. roubles, and they were very common in circulation (more common than non-commem. ones). The Olympic series was the first intended for collecting. For a long time people called any commem. roubles "olympic roubles".
While the larger denominations were issued in precious metals (silver, platinum), one rouble coins were all Cu-Ni. Although there was a relatively small portion of them in Proof which is listed in Krause quite a bit pricier.
