just curious on how much a PCGS slab weighs. also how much it would weigh together with a zn/cu penny

Get one and weigh it. But consider that the "tolerance" for the weight of the slab materials is probably rather loose so "knowing" the weight of a slab will probably not allow you to make any accurate predictions about the weight of another coin in a slab by subtracting your "known" slab weight.

I'd love to know the weight of a genuine PCGS slab, understanding the coin holder inside will be different depending on the size of the coin. I've got a certified modern ('83 S) half with a silver edge and though it's a long shot, it'd be nice to know the weight so I wouldn't have to break it out... Conder, don't you have quite a slab collection?

Generally, USPS charge flat rate ($1.64) for the first 3oz package (when you are paying/printing the label via eBay/PayPal Multishipper). I agree that it should be about 2oz.

The problem is that there are several different PCGS clamshell designs that have been used over the years, each one would have a different weight.

I ship a number of PCGS slabs and 3 oz's for one slab is good but for silver dollars and ASE's I go to 4 oz. You also have to figure in the packaging weight also. I can get away with 2 slabbed Lincolns for 6 oz's. Just my opinions edgman      |

I'm not trying to determine the shipping weight! That's easy!
I'm trying to determine the weight of the coin inside. That's hard. I know you're right bio. I was hoping somebody had a list somewhere of all the different slabs and their weights.
I guess what I'll need to do is get a certified silver Kennedy in the same slab and compare their weights. I'll post up my results once I figure it out with pictures so you'll know what THIS PCGS slab design weighs with a half dollar holder inserted. : )
