Could have bought them in late 2008 when the market tanked and been sitting on them. Even earlier this year, I was buying Morgan's around $13 apiece at the low. If you have the money and the time, you can really cash out. Silver has skyrocketed in just a few weeks, but he probably bought at a much lower price.

someone made an offer on the 1000 piece morgan lot. so I guess some silver investors are looking at it. wow. 1000 morgans at one time. I wonder if the buyer will be a vammer. That might only take his/her entire life to inspect all 1000 for possible vams.

My guess is that he may have been given the coins by someone who didn't want them. I doubt that he bought them at $13 each based on speculation.

It must have been someone who liked him very much to give him that many Morgans!

You would be surprised by the number of Morgan bags floating around. St Louis hosts the Silver Dollar Expo every October and there are always quite a few dealers selling $1000 face value bags.

That might only take his/her entire life to inspect all 1000 for possible vams. I have seen 1 sealed morgan bag in real life and it held 1000 Morgans and yes it would have been a dream to be able to go through them myself picking out the ones I would want to keep but it really wouldn't take all that long to figure out what is what Quote: You would be surprised by the number of Morgan bags floating around As I said above I have only seen 1 in my life. I would love to get a hold of a sealed $1000.00 bag. But the only way I would pay anywhere near the $22000.00 for the 1000 coin is if they were UNC not Fine or better like these. The reason I asked is this is the first time I have seen this guy sell coins like this (I know I haven't looked in awhile) in huge lots like this. I was just wondering if maybe this is one of those traveling antique show people that is like antique roadshow that visits motels where you bring in things to see what they are worth and they buy items from unsuspecting people trying to find out what their items are worth to have this many coins on hand

This does happen with banknotes anyway, (Hotel Hoarders) and I can see the possibility with coins as well.

I was just going to say that one of my local sealers has at least 3 bags of dollars for sale right now. I could never afford his asking price, but they're in his shop.

You've just got to find some coin shows. At almost every coin show I go to there are dealers with many, many Silver Dollars of all kinds. At a coin show last Sunday, and it was a small one, one dealer had a table completely full of Morgan dollars and all in MS grades. And that was the only types of coins he had too. At some of the larger shows I've seen many dealers with hundreds and hundreds of those. Really a lot more common than people think. At some of the larger coin shows it always amazes me at how many of the so called rare or key date coins are all over the place. One dealer had a stack of 1921 and 1921D Mercury dimes with probably 10 or more in each. Also, had about 5 1916D Mercury dimes too. Many also have several 1909S VDB Lincoln Cents too. I've found it is more difficult to find a 1932D Lincoln Cent in MS-64 or 5 than any Silver Dollars. Coin shows are loaded with those.
