You very well may do just that slick, but it will require a great deal of effort on a personal level coupled with mentoring from folks like you are blessed with here on this forum. They are selfless in their sharing of the knowledge that they struggled to acquire, and I really think that they remember those who in turn, mentored them. Take advantage of these folks while you can. I believe that this dark corner of numismatics is filled with contradictions, stumbling blocks and smoke and mirrors. Do not give up in disgust and frustration as I have, you will eventually arrive at your destination, but it will take time.

Morgan/Peace Dollar Vammimg!! Wornslick, I am just mentioning that there are also a completely different series of Dollars involved in the VAM World, The Peace dollar.........I have been redirecting my energy towards this series, after hoarding them for years, now looking into the attribution aspect of the series, talk about fun!!I still love the Morgans, just a shift in effort for a break......PS, ZW, Have you delved into this series at all? ZW, You stated" How about the numbering system thing though? Any insight there Mike? " I will say if you research the "number thing", you would probably be more informed or just more confused, I feel you will check it out, if you have not already! I have plenty to say, just attributing some Peace dollars now, Besides, the way you worded your question, speaks volumes of what you need to follow up on, "Learn That Poem"........LOL. |

Whew...I am going to have to try to decipher all of that Mike. Yes slick, that Van Allen guy just didn't know when to leave well enough alone, and he just went wild and started identifying die pairs on Peace dollars too. Do yourself a favor and leave that can of worms alone until you see if you can stand up to the Morgans first. |

No Mike, I don't know the first thing about Peace dollars, and yes, I have checked out the VAM numbering thing, and see no logic whatsoever in it. It just seems to go all over the place with different methods and sequencing gimmicks. (I do realize that the authors only had a small percentage of the known (at the time) vams to look at, but I still think that a better and more consistent job could/should have been done with it. Perhaps, since there was competition to be reckoned with in the way of Shafer, Klas, and others, there might have been a rush to get something decided upon, written, finalized and published ? I really don't know. |

there was a post just a day or so ago with the question of the numbering system, and if say VAM 1, and 1A are supposed to be linked, meaning are they the same die or say half die marriage,,,and in theory YES, however its not always so. many times there are assigned VAM progressions where there is not a direct link, and I think these vams were assigned at an early point in VAM assignments....before true VAM progressions were truely studied....I can't point to a specific example right now, and its not rampant, there is a pretty good accounting in general, there are errors, and new revisions are taking place as we speak... |
