I saw this listing for 6 proof sets on E-Bay. What enticed me about it was the couple of years that throw up Red Flag. You know the ones that you say to yourself I wonder if that has so and so in it. So I checked her other items she was selling and they weren't coin related. So I bid and won. I wasn't to happy to pay $12 over Coin Worlds Price Sheet. My mind kept hoping that a nice 1979 Clear S SBA Dollar wpuld be in their. But to my disappointment when they got here today. NO luck with 79. I did how ever catch a 1981 clear S 6 coin proof set. I couldn't believe the Red Book Value of $350. I'm hoping I'm correct with this find. Talk about taking away a dream. So if you have to be the bearer of bad news please be gentle. If you have some great surprises you would like to share please post. Thank You

You can't really see the mint mark from that picture. Here's a good website link so you can check. http://www.smalldollars.com/dollar/page29.html

I got a pretty good one on ebay. I bought a lot of a bunch of different coins including some uncirculated rolls. The pictures weren't good enought to really tell what was there so I was just going by the description. Included in the list of uncirculated rolls was a "partial roll" of 1943D nickels. Especially without any pics, I was pretty skeptical but I won the auction for a bid that would've been about right if it was all circulated junk. I was pleasantly surprised to find some really nice stuff including a tube with 15 great looking uncirculated 1943D War Nickels.

Hope that second picture shows it better. RPT that site is what started me on the hunt! LOL
Pfriddle I have held my finger over the mouse countless times on those auctions but never took the chance. Now I think I'm going to have too.

Quick Question for Pros and Those
Has anyone ever received a Silver or Clad Proof set where the reverse part of capsule is slightly larger creating a kinda of a lip. Its just one side that has the lip the other 3 sides are normal. On this set its the top. Reason I ask is I won a 2007 Silver Proof Set and when I took it out of the box the back part of the capsule was just slightly bigger then the rest of the capsule making a little lip. It felt loose so I pushed it ever so slightly and the corner opened up to where the dime could be seen and a hair of the nickel was exposed. This set my mind to wondering if people are making Copy silver proof sets and selling them. And if the planchet wasn't polished properly would that leave a bunch of little marks on a quarter (Wyoming) If any one has another set with the same or similar issues, or if anyone could shed some light. I'd love to hear from ya. Thanks For your time.

I don't go by RedBook Prices but can tell you they are asking $295 (buyitnow) on ebay, however, the last one sold by auction went for $75.A lot of guys don't like to hear ebay prices, but I figure actual sales are way more accurate than any book will ever be. At the very least I know what I can get in a pinch.

I don't think people are making copies of proof sets, but what they may be doing is cherrypicking the high grade coins out of a set, sending them in for grading, and then replacing with lower grade coins for re-sale.
