Found this 52 D Wheat cent, I suppose it must be Struck Through Grease. I don't get the precision with which the grease erases just one letter. Anyway,
Thanks, Coop! On the first set of pictures you sent there's a reverse that looks exactly like mine, is it also a 52D Wheat cent? And if it is, would this mean it's not an error but a variety? I'm sorry if it is a silly question, I'm just trying to learn.
On a variety coin, ALL coins struck with a certain die will have the same issue. Which are mink mark issue (RPMs), doubled dies or over date issues (19th century issues). On your coin and mine, the coins were all normal dies except for the time grease was clogging the die not allowing the devices to flow into that area. Later the grease may have been removed or fell out and again the die would make the full looking normal coins. On a variety these would always be the same. Here is a classic one: It is a double variety. It is a RPM and a Small over a large date coin. All coins struck with this die will be the same till the die was retired.
