Quote:1868 silver Three Cent piece....given in change as a dime That I find very hard to swallow. Are you sure you don't mean an 1868 coppernickel Three Cent piece? It is the same size as a dime, and the 1868 is a common date. An 1868 silver Three Cent is less than 2/3rds the size of a dime and the 1868 is a rarity.

Oldest silver found in circulation is a 1944 Mercury I received in change last year. The same year I was walking on campus and found a beat up 1941 Mercury dime on the ground.

Where do you people live where Mercuries are so abundant in the wild? The only Mercury I've ever seen in real life (that wasn't in a coin shop or antique store) is one that my mom has.
The oldest silver coin I personally have found in change is a 1964 quarter that came out of the change machine at the laundromat when I put in a 20. A guy I work with at The Home Depot found a 1953 quarter in his till, which I traded a clad quarter and 2 pennies for (it was all I had on my at the time).

I used to think I was the only person who never found any Mercury dimes in circulation. It surprised me to find two of them. I was happy with the first one I found.

I don't take the time and energy to roll search. However in the past year I have some 1950's dimes and quarters show up as returned change. It is a pretty cool feeling to be able to add a little more silver to the pile.
