its a new one that was found after everyone started looking at their VAM-80's looking for VAM-85's. There have been two of them found also just like there have been two VAM-85's. I know most will not care about this but I think its pretty cool, The VAM-85 is one of the new VAM's thats nominated for VAM Of The Year. I don't know if it will win that award or not but just being nominated is an honor. The reasoning that VAM-86 isn't one of the nominations is because it would have never been discovered if the VAM-85 wasn't discovered first and everyone was looking closer at their VAM-80's

(I don't know, maybe I am just biased).

Bryan1315, aka Kenneth Robb, got some more big press in the Coin World I received yesterday! The December 27, 2010 issue of Coin World magazine contains another large article on Morgan VAMs and Bryan1315 is mentioned at least twice that I saw.

cool! I haven't seen that one. They haven't sent me a magazine yet but I do have access to the online version. You want me to send you some money and you send me this issue also if I don't soon get mine?

No need for any money Bryan. Consider it a Christmas gift. I've still got your address and will drop it in Monday's mail. : )

this may seem stupid, but this is for a 1978 P morgan. what if I found all these markings on a 1978 Morgan? It has the same disconnected leaf and the markings around the "United States" lettering. I dont know anything about Morgans, I mostly do only pennies and even then dont know much about those.

Sk8er722,
What date did you intend to enter? No Morgans in 1978. I can offer an answer with the correct date.

The VAM's 70-82 have the same disconnected leaf. It is the other attributes that change the VAM number. If you could post pictures of the coin we can try and help you attribute the coin for you. We will need some clear pictures because some of the differences can be a little hard to see in photos but we have some members here that are very good at attributing from photos even some times when the photos are less than perfect

opps 1878, and I just relized that 1878 made at the Phili mint wouldnt have a mint mark, am I correct for thinking this? I don't have the coin, I was looking through some coins at a coin store after I read this thread. I saw the leaf but didnt see the P, I didnt relize there wouldnt be a mint mark... so I said it isn't the same and put it back. now I have to go back and buy it and dont have the cash for it yet. lol
wouldnt that suck if it was a VAM-85 and I put it back because I didnt know...

Bryan... there is a person who now has 2 VAM-85's. I am impressed with this discovery... I wonder how many more are out there for the B1's.
