So there is an 1890 Carson City Morgan dollar at a local antique shop. I would say it grades a bit higher than VF 20. The price on it is $110 and the shoptender said the seller woul go no lower than $100. How can I tell if this coin is a fake without weighing it?

VF20 for an 1890-CC Morgan, most likely genuine. Not a rare date for CC Morgans but, if the coins devices or features seem out of place or the date and/or mintmark look suspect, avoid.
Looks like he is going by Numismedia VF20 price if he is calling it that.
