Wow, after a fair amount of time spent reading this post, I want my time back. How does a simple post by someone looking for accurate information turn into 11 pages of heated (and often uneducated) argument between completely uninvolved parties?
Our hobby is fueled by the hunt for undiscovered rarities. Yes, discoveries of true rarities are indeed scarce....but when a hopeful and earnest novice has a very fair question, why muddy the waters? Sometimes less is more.

Quote: It was a 1972 over a 1964 silver. If I remember correctly, PCGS declined to authenticate it due to it most likely being an intentional error. I remember when errors were the hottest thing on the market: Atheist cents, morse code nickels, bie and cracked skull Lincolns. At times it seemed the rarity was a coin with nothing wrong! Then someone hid some manufactured errors in the oil pan of a tow motor, I think was the story. Things like a proof quarter struck over a Barber quarter, coins folded over and then struck, etc. If you see a turtle on a fencepost, you can bet he had help.

liveanddie....As you just did ? Keep in mind we are all not experts and this is a community full of opinions and ideas. Also one thing that is done to keep the thread from fading into oblivion is to comment and bump it up.

The whole point of letting the experts do it is they have access to the tools to do it right, including scanning microscopes and x ray diffraction. One reason there may be a delay is unusual cases occasionally go to an extra expert or two for a consensus, and those experts may not always be handy.

Two weeks from now, the OP's biggest problem is going to be: Is it Miller Time, or Bud time?

Quote: biggfredd, Thanks for taking my words and breaking them down to prove I am just tring to scam people. Also thank you for proving I am using a quack dealer with your insight on her credibility. What scam? 15 minutes of fame while we wait for it to return? It's not like you're trying to sell a questionable error. I was just pointing out that parts of what you have said change, and those particular two sentences were contradictory. Remember that all any of us have to go on is what is presented to us. I didn't question your dealer's honesty, just her knowledge. As far as paying $80 for an expert opinion, once I reached an impasse with my own abilities, that's exactly what I would do. The stakes are too high to do otherwise, and since you've loaded the dice in your favor by eliminating the obvious, it's much less of a crap shoot. Side story: a few years back, I talked to a dealer about a wooden jewelry box almost covered with coins on his table. He was watching a friend's table. The other dealer paid $50 for it, and offered it to him for $100, and he passed. Since the dates on the coins and their near new condition suggested it was made in the early 1900s, the colonial piece had to be fake. So he experimented with removing the coins by starting with the fake so he didn't damage a potential 08s or 09s Indian. Once he got it loose, the more he looked at it, the more he questioned that it could be real. He sent it in, and sure enough, it came back a nice VF, one of the trees, which he had on display at $4500. So yes, these things happen, and I hope good news happens to you. If it does, try to get it written up in Coin World, Numismatic News and other coin publications, as a boon to the hobby.

I think a lot of peoples' wording would be a little more than erratic or jumbled if they thought they found something with this kind of a possibility... Maybe some of the things he said were just taken out of context... Either way, it's all about the hunt for this, or something like this that keeps us all glued to this fantastic Coin Community. Hybes, sometimes this forum can get a little crazy with scepticism, but that is also to help learn the truth and the facts. HYBES, I hope that you find the answers you are looking for. For all of us are just looking for that diamond in the rough as well...
Peace, Joe

Got word from PCGS this Morning: Questionable Authenticity
I'm a little mad that I paid that much for something I already knew. Did I not send it to them to be authenticated? Why can they just tell me questionable authenticity? Is that not their job to figure that out?
I don't have any more answers yet but I will be on the phone trying to see the difference and what it all means.
Reactions would be appreciated. No photos yet but I will post them when I get them.
