Spoke to the coin shop sending out the coin. She said she sent it to pcgs not ngc and it didn't go out until the 25th. (So on 2/3, it was sent out 1/25)

I asked her and she said she would request a specific gravity test to check metal content, and she would specify on the submission form. (And a day later, that she will write a request on the submission form, which supposedly left ten days earlier.) As Grudge Judy says "see how easy this is?"

Quote:Let me re ask my question...why would anyone slab a 1977-D clad Kennedy half dollar? I think the point you are making is that there would be no reason to slab a 77d circ clad half except if it was 40% silver, so you shouldn't have to tell them to check it for 40% silver. Now if the coin was super gemmy, it might be sent in for grade rarity, but this coin doesn't look like a 67+.

biggfredd, Thanks for taking my words and breaking them down to prove I am just tring to scam people. Also thank you for proving I am using a quack dealer with your insight on her credibility.
I was dumb enough to think she was going off the idea of ready, aim, fire. Finding out what the error was, seeing if it was illegal to own, and then doing what needed to be done to send it in. You and your all knowing, all seeing attitude must think it is better to not ask questions and not seek more information.
As far as the question about marking to look for an error, I had asked that question prior to her sending it in and was responding to a question asked by a forum member.
As "Grudge" Judy says "see how easy this is?"
I'm out until the coin comes back in. You folks can continue to question my credibility, the credibility of the people I am dealing with, and weather or not this is all a made up scam.
You will see the results when I get the slab and see if I am an idiot for sending it in to PCGS. I sure some of you will let me know how stupid I am if it comes back as non-silver.

Quote:Would really like to know what are the methods of the 3 TPG uses to test metal contents. Non-destructive techniques like IR spectroscopy and energy dispersive X-ray(EDX) spectroscopy, they can analyze a coin on an elemental level. Of course, instruments like that have price tags that run into the tens of thousands of dollars.

As somebody already pointed out, there have been quite a few similar posts, so expect some skepticism..it's natural. But an unexpected celebration would be something most would look forward to.

I'm with Chcukster 125, if the coin isn't silver at least you had that lottery ticketr for awhile. I think we are all enjoying this. I hope it turns out to be silver, maybe someday one will be mine.

I would have sent it in also. If PCGS sends it back as a clad coin you might be in the money. I have never heard of one ever. I think collectors will be jsut at excited as I am to potetially purchase one.

Quote: I know the weights are close, but accurate scales should discern the difference. Scale accuracy isn't the problem. Coin weights have tolerances, like 10g plus/minus .5 gram, so a genuine coin could be between 9.5 and 10.5g. The ranges for clad and 40% overlap, so only a weight in the non-overlap area would mean anything.
