Does anyone have an idea of what the numismatic (collectable) value of a coin like this is if it is a silver planchet?

That's a really good question.

I would put it somewhere between and .

I have seen some go for at least and as much as .

But, seriously, I could see it being worth a comma (or more).

It was only sent off about 2 weeks ago. I'm afraid we're going to be waiting a little while longer.

I recently found one that went to auction in 2005 Graded by ANACS AU-50. If you are a member of Heritage Auctions you can see this link. For those of you that are not members it sold for $3,737.50

I think mine may be in better condition and grade out higher, we will see. I will post it the day it comes back. I apoligize for the delay, it seems you guys are more impatient than me!

how much did it cost to grade for a error ?

My impression was if you send a coin off they grade condtion only , You have to pay EXTRA and TELL them you want it checked and reconized as a error if it is one

This was from reading the NCG website and their fee's.

I would hate for you to have sent it to be graded rather then verified as a error and graded

I'm a little skeptical myself, wouldn't weighing it have been pretty easy ? Maybe I missed it but I did not see where it was weighed.I know the weights are close, but accurate scales should discern the difference. And the fact that so many of these 10 page "discovery" threads turn out to be wishful thinking have made me a little skeptical.

yeah the fact that the guy wasn't too interested in doing any of the simpler tests, especially when we suggested he do them, made me think that it was a sham.

I too am skeptical, but would love to be proven wrong with a nice photo of the coin after slabbing.
