If the coin in question was a 90% half I can see the point in weighing it and judging off weight. Weight may be the worst indicator in the world. The difference between a 40% and a CUNI is so slim that some of the 1968 halves I weighed were less than some of the CUNI halves. Most CUNI weighed in at 11.35 grams while most 40% weighed in at 11.44. The 77d in question was at 11.38 grams at times and 11.42 at times and everywhere in between.

I have got a video with sound in it. Sure, it is a crappy video but you can clearly hear the coin. I have pictures from every angle, next to known 40%, next to CUNI's, edge shots, stacked shots, obverse shots, reverse shots, pictures of the tissue test. What more did you guys want from me? I swear some people are not happy unless they are whining about something.

For the record, I am guessing it is a CUNI coin as well but to many things told me to have it checked out and know for sure rather than wonder for the rest of my life.

BTW coppertop I did specify to look for the error when it is sent in and I don't know the final cost for grading yet, but she mentioned right around $40.

I can't blame people for being skeptical, because so many of these threads have turned out to be duds. But, I don't see any reason to bash the OP about it. I'd rather see the results and congratulate someone rather than eat crow later.

I have my fingers crossed for you. You are battling some serious odds, but we do see those odds beat every once in a great while. Let's hope this one of them.

worry not hybes, we're not attacking you per se, rather we're merely skeptical. for the record, I had a penny that didn't go through the zinc plating process and posted it thinking it was aluminum, and got similar treatment.

Very cool thread, while we are waiting what ever happened to that person with the silver quarter that was restamped over a 1964 quarter.

It was a 1972 over a 1964 silver. If I remember correctly, PCGS declined to authenticate it due to it most likely being an intentional error.

Nope, the listed weights are different but the tolerances overlap.
CuNi clad- 175.0 grains +/-7.0gr

This is the first time I saw this thread. I was in complete suspense reading from page to page, thinking I would see a pic of this coin slabbed, but unfortunately, I am now waiting for the results like everyone else!

All I can say is that from the pics - it looks like it's struck on a 40% planchet. I really hope it turns out to be 40% silver. That would be amazing! Good luck!

What ever happened to "Innocent until proven Guilty"? I think that Hybes did pretty good at giving you enough to help him out. I've noticed on these threads that people are quick to cut down someone who is asking for advice on a coin that may or may not be something of value. None of us are "know it alls" but, there seems to be a few that think they are. Let's all show a little respect to the guy, shall we?

Maybe some can remember the thread about the 1909S VDB that someone found working at a gas station? It happens.
