Just sent it away on consignment, but am having SERIOUS reservations on its rarity and whether I should just have it returned and keep it. I think it was going to be listed as a bin $120. the person/merchant I sent it to is a friend. Moved to Morgan VAM forum - SapEdited by jr44476 12/08/2010 7:03 pm

I believe your price is fair. (VF) This has a rarity factor of 5. Try VAM World for your Morgan & Peace varieties.

Personally, I could never part with it; still looking for the right one or two.

Thanks to both replyer mods. Yes, I've checked Vamworld, including some prices they say this hot lips has gone for, ranging from $120 to*gasp*, one in 2009 that went for several thousand. As of right now, I might have my buddy up it to a $120 bin/best offer.
As for the 2nd mod reply, yep, I keep telling myself that too..keep it.

In my haste to gather info oon my hotlips Morgan, I neglected to tell about me. I'm Gary from the alien capitol of the world, Roswell New Mexico. No, I haven't seen any ufo's yet, but have met several ppl who have and swear they're real. Only unusual thing I've seen came from a drive a friend took to me to about 15 miles south of town to these HUGE I'll call them holes,lol...more like canyons...could drop 20 fottball fields in them and not cover the area. In one "hole" was a 1957 chevy(too deep to go down there)but it looked stripped anyway. How deep it was in there..the chevy looked like the size of a matchbox car. ANYWAY...I collect Morgan dollars, focusing right now on 1902-s morgs and 1901-p morgs that I think are sleepers as most are still inexpensive. I'll let you know mid next week how things go with my hotlips. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

to the forum! You have a nice coin there and it's certainly a popular variety!

jr Welcome aboard. The 1888-O VAM 4 Hotlips is not particularly rare, but it still retains its popularity. If your coin will grade (not cleaned, scratched, tooled, etc), your BIN price may be a bit low. If it has problems and won't grade then $120 would be in the right ballpark. The multi-thousand dollar examples you referenced are uncirculated examples. These are VERY RARE, ergo the price is moon-money.

Nice EF-40 hot lips Morgan. May have some light cleaning. $160 - $200 is a fair price. ($240 if it comes back EF-40 in a TPG slab)

I think it may go EF 45, but I have no price range, It only escalates as it gets into the MS range, which this coin is not....

Wow, those lips would give Angelina Jolie some pretty stiff competition.

Unless there is some issue with this coin or something I'm not seeing it would grade EF and possibly EF+. With a grade of EF it retails around $600 and in AU it retails for about $3,000. I would not be selling this coin for $120 as it is close to AU condition....

My apologies for not giving this subject the attention it deserves. *If* the coin will slab, EF seems about right. Depending on the TPG and specific grade, in the real world it's a $200-300 coin based on Heritage and ebay results. For the record, there are 50 of them currently on ebay, and that's only searching for "hot lips" in the title. Most are overpriced or heavily worn. *If* the coin will slab, and *if* the original poster wishes to go to the time and expense of having it graded. Frankly, I'd give $120 for this coin immediately, and expect to profit substantially on the resale.

I will disagree with you on this one. I would not let this out of my hands for less than $500 and that would be if it only grades EF...
