Can we get a clean (no line) pic of a far/low 2?

In the example posted, the line seems a bit too high:

This is great! I have question - from the posted pics, it seems the tail of the 9 in the Far 2's date is pointed and the near 2's 9 is squared off - is this the case? Are there any higher resolution pics that could be linked to?

dialog_gvf, the pictures are from my friend castor : I am grateful for this share !

For me, it seem easier to check the distance between the top of 2 and the leaf : no confusion, the distance is wider for the varity " Far 2 ".

dialog_gvf,

- for the variety " Far 2 ", when we pass the line from the extremity of right leaf and the top of 2, we find the end of this line in the center of 1.

- for the variety " Near 2 ", when we pass the line from the extremity of right leaf and the top of 2, we find the end of this line on the top of 1 and on the extremity of the left leaf.

I made the picture larger and added some pointers to it.

So if yours are not like this, I winder if this means there is more than one type of Far 2?

Earle42,

My coin, a " Far 2 ". is the same that you can see on the last picture, including the 9.

The first picture is a " Near 2 ".

Like for 5 cents 1926 " Near 6 and Far 6 ", my search is restricted to the 5 cents 1932 " Near 2 and Far 2 ".

I don't know if we have different 9 for the 5 cents 1926. I know nothing about this.

thanks za75 - I was just wondering if it might be possible to make it easier to know if a nickel is a Far or a Near 2 if the 9s are so different (like the picture seems to show).

BTW - I would love to be on the Canadian forum you listed, but I speak only English and Spanish. So, although knowing Spanish makes it possible to get a good idea of what is written in French, it still is something I am not sure I can take the time to do. Maybe I should learn French!

Hi Earle42 and thanks to clarify this point for me !

I think, but I am not sure, that the form of the bottom of 9 ( sharp or blunt ) as you say, is connected with the position of F and S on the coin ( Far Rim and Near Rim ): these common errors are repertoried in the trends of CCN and in Charlton.

But I see no connection between the form of the 9 and the " Far 2 and Near 2 " on the 5 cents 1932.
I hope that, one day, the rare variety " Far 2 " will be also repertoried in the trends and in the Charlton.

----

Welcome on our forum for you and all collectors !

With all data, the results today are :

- 21/2184 = 0.96 % for the RARE variety " Far 2 " !

- 2163/2184 = 99.04 % for the COMMON variety " Near 2 ".

Thanks for your data !

Can you explain the fact that I obtain about 400 data, no more, on this subject, from members of following sites :

- coincommunity.com

- canadiancoppercoins.com

- canadiancoin.com ?

I hope that more members will be interested with this RARE variety !

Consequently, I need your contribution in this statictic's search.
