I just bought, cost me right at $229 with shipping. I wish they would have come out yesterday maybe we could have saved a few bucks.

Bullion #8 Olympic dropped today, anybody buy or care?

You know what. I was as pumped as anyone when the buillon sets came out, and expended some modicum of effort to buy multiple sets from all distributors. My energy and anticipation level remained high for a couple of months.

I no longer care. Christmas is over. Someone take down the tree.

6 Sets ATB 5 OZ graded at PCGS
Just received grades on 6 sets of 2010 ATB 5 oz. This is my first time using a grading service, and it seems I should have screen my coins before sending them seeing as how quite a few came back with low grades. On average, these got a 67PL. Some came back low, but did manage 3 69 DMPL and 2 69 PL. How does this compare to results others have seen? With minimal grading experience should I have been able to pick out the lower grade ones myself to not submit?

Sorted by Variety:

SilverFossil64 sorry you had such an expensive lesson. You can't even recoup most of your fees by selling a complete set of five 69's. You might try trading some multiples to get that complete set of 69's.

I may try trading some...I got 5 more sets to screen before submitting for grades...and a friend of mine has 22 sets...between us hopefully we can each make a 69DM set to keep then start selling the rest...I think I misled myself on grades since I had not seen any low grades on ebay and population reports had so few low grades -- probably an issue of people screening coins rather than proportion of all these coins...that or the casual buyer from the suppliers got shafted because the best were cherrypicked for themselves or key clients...

Yikes! That must have been one expensive submission. I would expect that the graders have gotten eye fatigue from seeing the same type of coin over and over, thus accounting for the lower grades. Now, the ER/FS designation makes good sense, if they are now giving lower grades than before. This is the complete opposite of the Choice & Gem BU grades that they were giving early on, merely as a protective holder than as a practical real world grade. You have 1 69PL set and a 68PL so you should be pleased with some coins getting high marks, but as far as emasse grading goes, that time is over, unless you are a big time submitter or renowned coin dealer.

Silverfossil,
When you look at a 69, 68 VS 64 -- What is the big difference? Thanks

BTW, you have some nice grades in the lot.

I haven't gotten the coins back yet, just the grades online. I do plan to use this as a way to compare the coins of different grades to help figure out which are worth submitting in the next round...
