Quote: I was surprised at the prices. I thought pricing would be a lot more competetive as people vied for your business, but found it to be the opposite. I don't know what the acronym F.U.N. stands for as far as collectors go, but I have heard that for dealers, it is more a festival of greed.

Quote: I don't know what the acronym F.U.N. stands for as far as collectors go ... From Glossary on the left: FUN Show The first coin show each year. This annual convention is sponsored by the Florida United Numismatists and is held in early January. Quote: If that is your area of interest I'm sure you would not have been disappointed. I was talking about Scooby ... I thought he was converting rather nicely.

I always thought that you could get your best deals at a coin show.

svslav, Don't give up on me yet! To be honest, if I were a little more knowledgable about the darkside, I may have spent more time there since I couldn't find my main targets. But, it was literally soooo overwhelming and I didn't want to just start throwing money just to come home with something. Although I came very, very close to breaking down and buying a double saddle struck cent that was just about the most beautiful error I've ever seen. But, that would have left me short a comma. Maybe next time I'll be a little more prepared. I do regret not getting photos of the educational displays they had up. I started to on Saturday, but I still had way too many tables to visit and thought I could get pics on Sunday. But, there were already dismantled and gone when I got back.

Wornslick, that's what I was expecting, too. But I had been passing up better prices and saving for this show for the last 6 months thinking I would score better there.
Maybe it's because my goals were a little high.

I was kind of surprised when you told me that. But, given how many people were in line (at least when I was there) and the amount of time he was actually spending on each coin maybe he didn't really look at it all that well. That, and he probably had looked at 999 other coins that were PMD and was on autopilot. I don't know, hard to say. I think I would take Mike Diamond's assessment.

Thanks for the pics and report Scooby....very cool.
How many 14-D's did you see at the show? I'm surprized you couldn't find any Lincolns at a fair price?! What's up with the dealers not talking CDN prices?

Quote: What's up with the dealers not talking CDN prices I don't know BadThad, maybe I had unrealistic expectations. I probably seen about 100 '14-D's, many were too low of a grade. It seemed like evrything was either F12 or below or MS63+, which was way out of my price range if I were to still hunt for an '09-S VDB. Best prices I can recall were $3450 for the '14-D and $2300 for MS63's (after haggling). There was one (ONE) raw '09-S VDB that (I think) would have gone MS63 for $1550, but wasn't very appealing. It had some streaking in the planchet that was just too prominent to ignore. I couldn't get past that to even focus enough to determine if it was authentic. The mintmark looked a little funny, so it was a no-brainer to pass on. Part of me is really bummed that I didn't get that double saddle struck Lincoln (I mean it was a slobber-knocker), but I don't regret not shelling out a grand for it. Although, he did come down to $900, provided I bought a mated pair he had for $350. I'm bummed that I didn't come home with anything, but not bummed that I can still afford to get one I want. I think I'll stick with the smaller shows from now on for major purchases and keep these type of shows for just having F.U.N. I still had a blast - the educational displays were awesome. Next time I'll spend more time taking pics of those to share.

Oh, by the way, Wizard was there and I asked about Verdi-Care and they told me I had to order it through their website. What's up with that?
