You score deals on ebay by bidding on things other people miss (including the seller at times). There is an element of risk involved though, of course, and a bit of a learning curve on evaluating the sellers' "tricks."

And metalman, you either need new glasses or a new monitor. That S is really obvious even on my cruddy laptop.

My computer is new so I guess new glasses? seriously the picture came out better here than it showed in the auction, I already said that in my second post.

The point is why would I want to spend more than 50 dollars to find out what was under the shadow?

If that's your thing have at it, I will buy coins that I know what I'm getting, I personally don't have time to deal with returns, pay pal complaints or ebay buyer protection.

the best protection is not buying coins you can't see.

I changed the contrast on my monitor, I can see the S now but the rest of the coin is still dark enough to hide any number of problems, the degritis is more obvious also.

I agree, why spend the $$ to find out what it really is, not worth it too risky. If your really interested in it you can always ask the seller to post a different picture.
