WOW .... it is funny how you always seem to run into people from Michigan.
When I moved here to Florida, I found nine different people that I knew from the same area in Michigan. All from the Lansing / Eaton Rapids area. I did not know any of them were here .. before I moved here.
I also spent a few years around Grayling.

Eaglefoot and Fenton
I think a lot more people like gambling then admit it. I also think it is a lot of fun, as long as you don't spend the money needed to pay the bills and eat ...
As for telling the wife, maybe if you bring home a big win and share .. she might not mind as much.
Fenton ... that is cool about your brother .. I wish I was brave enough to give something like that a shot

Quote: That really is a nice coin. I was the next highest bidder on it. You beat me fair and square! LOL cwb8539 I have often wondered if members of this forum have been bidding on the same coins ... thank you for taking it so nicely. I hope you find another one that you really like and win it. I still have worry that the coin might not be as nice as I hope. I have never bought from that seller .. and this is a very faked coin and fake slabbed. Also ..sometimes a picture can make a coin look better than it is. For a coin of this price (which is a lot for me), I tried to check out as much as I could. I think I have the NGC number burned into memory (I think it is 3383887-003), to me the NGC pics do not show enough detail, but I am pretty sure it is the same coin. I did like when I looked up this coin on NGC they put a value of $1300, I guess when they graded it. Does anyone know how to tell when the coin was graded? I think the S mint mark looks good, will check more when I get it in hand. Also one of my books says some of the S vdb coins can have certain die markers, like a "die gouge" between the "RU" in "trust". I think I might see something there on this one .. but again will have to check it out more. Again thank all of you for responding .. it really is nice to be able to share this long awaited moment with such good people.

Now I am stuck. I just went to the bank and put $1200 cash into the account that is attached to my paypal account. I ask the teller if, by putting cash, I can use it today to pay for a ebay purchase, she said yes. When I got home, I looked and on the receipt it say "credit on next business day". Has anyone had this problem, will paypal go through on the weekend or does it wait until the next business day also? Also this seller has free shipping, for 3 to 5 day delivery and $20.00 for one day service. I will look again, but did not see a link for ask the seller a question. I am thinking it might be worth the $20.00 shipping but nothing mentions insurance? Any thoughts on this?

I am thinking it might be worth the $20.00 shipping but nothing mentions insurance? For a coin like this, call the seller up and be sure or ask in an email. I would bet that the coin is insured. I think it is the sellers responsibility to get the item to you if you pay. I wondered the same thing and my shipping was free. I wrote this and got this reply. I wrote:I am sure you would be insuring a coin of this value and tracking it. Surely shipping a coin of this value and protecting it from damage and loss is routine in your business. Thank you My reply rec was:Good morning, We do know about shipping and packing running about a hundred packages daily here lately. I am going to send this express fully insured, no additional cost to you. It will likely get to you Tuesday and you will have to sign for it. Thanks for making this layaway transaction very smooth and quick. The nickel will be well hidden in the package inside a small cardboard safety mailer then inside a bubble mailer inside the Express envelope. Enjoy. Thank you Quote: If it ends up as nice looking as I think it is, and I can get a good picture .. maybe I can figure out how to make it my avatar. Susan was kind enough to make me a custom avatar. I sent her an image that was 500x500 and she made it work from there. Ask her nice and maybe she will for you. You have to decide on taking it out of that slab. I would never do that since it passes the cleaned or genuine determinations with no problems mentioned. Next time it gets graded they might say different. You can always take it out but can never put it back but that's up to you.

Another thought on the avatar. Without the reverse it looks like a nice 1909 S so I dunno? Still nice but nobody will realize whether it is an S or S VBD?

Of course. Just keep the information sticker and tape it on the inside cover. Now here is a thought. There were 484,000 minted. You have one of those. Using a possible deduction due to damage, melting, lost, etc probably only half remain. So you now have one of about 242,000. Not bad at all.
