Signs of an old cleaning. Too much wear for an EF grade?

I agree that it has been cleaned.

I think it easily has EF details. Another good find for ya Scotty!

I'm curious, what are the indications that this or other coins have been cleaned?

AU-50, looks like the reverse may have been unintentionally cleaned.

I'm with bruceinga, what are the telltale signs that this one has been cleaned? Based on the reverse pic, I'd place it in the "suspicious/possibly cleaned" category. If there is something about the obverse that indicates a cleaning, I'm missing it unless it's the crud at 7 o'clock.

In hand, the high points on the obverse look like they've been wiped in the past. Especially on the shoulder and bust areas. I agree with Thad about it possibly being unintentional. I found it in a 1000 count bag and the only thing I've done with it is photograph it, and slip it in a 2x2.
