Years ago, my lawnmower dealer saved quarters in one of the posts that jacked up the ceiling. I think he said he managed to get $600-800 in there.

Keep most of mine is this safe, which is mounted inside a small entertainment center in my basement. Too many meth heads in these hills to not lock em up. Not a bad safe for $100, room for all my coins plus a couple of pistols.

When dad changed to a steel tool box, I got his old heavy (oak?) wooden one. Since it was made for heavy tools, it was great for coins. I used it at quite a few shows over the years, carrying rolls plus everything I needed for NEWPs. It had a good supply of 2x2s, stapler, staples, pliers, knife, magnifiers, etc. Customers would volunteer to carry stuff into shows, so they could see the new goodies. More than one couldn't even lift it.

Neat and nice.

For those of you want those wood tool chest w/ drawer
1) Harbor Freight has and 8-draws "Windsor Design 94538" for $79.99 + shipping cost (free shipping on order over $100)
2) Amazon offer the same product as Harbor Freight for $94.25 + $17.49 shipping
3) Woodcraft.com offer "Gerstner International 10 Drawer Tool Chest" (Item #147378 ) for ONLY $399.99 + shipping cost

I've been thinking of building a little cabinet to store all my 2x2 boxes but that won't happen for a while.... I need to organize and gather all my stuffs first (been 9 months since I moved and still only about half way done).

I see what appears to be red felt. Felt has nasty chemicals in it. Long term exposure will make you crazier than typical coin collectors. One such example is the people who made felt hat, which is where we get the term "mad as a hatter".

If you don't want two to get free shipping, and you don't already have one, check out their electronic scales.

General question for you folks that have your collections at home; I see some have safes for storage, maybe discourage thievery that can happen in any neighborhood. How about fire proof? I've read many times that coins can melt in a house fire - have any of you bought fire-proof protection for your valuables? Not sure if home-owner's insurance will cover coins and such numismedia; my son has a couple valuable musical instruments, and those required a special rider.

Coins also require a rider, and the most likely answer will be "no". Ditto jewelry and other specialized collectables.

People often find out too late that "money" is only covered at face value, and only for $100 total.

If you rent, you better have tenant's insurance. You'd be amazed how much a closet full of clothes costs to replace.

Fire-resistant safes are a good idea, but even there, you should have them bolted down in concrete.

I think that also a good idea... but the problem is "PVC" substances ==> ie: no long term storage (good for day-by-day organizing & sorting etc

Oh, come on, Fredd... they haven't used mercury compounds for felt sizing for a l-o-n-g time now.

Not that coin collectors aren't "mad" anyway.
