1800 Dime--Burned? - Coin Community Forum

I found this on ebay-- http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...5197.c0.m619 I like the date and I like the "character" of the coin but am wondering if 1) this is wise from an investment standpoint 2) this coin is "too damaged" 3) the best I can do for this date in this price range 4) worth the money (I have made NO offer yet) Any insight/opinions would be appreciated. I am thankful for your better judgment about the market, which I have been out of for a long time. Yeah--the lack of a refund option scares me away--it is just too much money for that kind of chance. I have not seen any other 1800 dimes on the market except for the one I had when I was 15. The obverse was worn so smooth that even the bust was not visible, only two letters in LIBERTY and the date were left! I bought it for 140 and sold it for 150 the next year. Bad investment at that price of course, but the obverse color kills the coin even for a spot in my bust dime album. Obviously, I can't afford $10000 coins, so I often settle for damaged coins, but I try to get ones that aren't disfigured. The problems are just too obvious on the obverse. The reverse is fine. Light damage is the best because it often results in a heavy discount, but little impairment unless you really look for it. Report this Post to the Staff
