I was surfing around and couldn't resist sharing this somewhat relevant scientific info: "The curie temperature for a low carbon steel is 770C or 1390F. When steel is heated above its curie temperature, it will become austenitic and loses its magnetic properties. When it is cooled back down, it will go through a reverse transformation and will contain no residual magnetic field." --taken from the Non-destructive testing education site http://www.ndt-ed.orgI *think* this means the steel will return to being ferromagnetic once it returns to room temperature. Anyway I can cross off the 2006P non-magnetic from my list (albeit temporarily) if I can somehow generate 800-degree heat! Admittedly, the Zinc core cents have a different look to them. They are thicker. I assume this is true of the existing 2006P non-magnetics!

Unbelievable! Pierre cancelled his MS 66 listing! He sold it privately! THE BUGGER! Can someone ask him how much he sold it for?

And to cancel the sale, presumably this means he has sold ALL his MS66 coins.........

With the recent ebay prices realized for this coin, I would not be surprised to see more coming out of the woodwork. After all, 71 have been certified... 800C heat is all it takes? Hrmm, the melting point of copper is just over 1000C, I wonder if I should take a few of my 2006P cents into the labs at work, and try a few experiments... Smallcentguy, if your coin will ever make the transition to a PCGS holder in the future, it would be cool to let me zap it under the XRF first... to see what these non-magnetic coins truly are...

I'm quite sure discolouration would be evident.
Just fired off an email to Pierre to see if he will spill the beans on the final sale price of all his 66 coins.

yes I just saw Pierre cancelled his MS 66 listing! why did he wait until AFTER your ms 65 ended ... if he had done this a day early, the ms65 would have gone for more $$$

Right about now there are a whole bunch of upset potential buyers. If they knew Pierre was going to cancel then they would have been all over the MS65. No names mentioned but a "prominent" error collector is the one who purchased my coin. I would kill to find out what the 66'S sold for!

I am sad by what happened. It may be a few years before we have this much entertainment again.

It really was good entertainment wasnt it? Littlemoney, who knows what will happen moving forward. Maybe, Pierre will email and tell me he got a BAZILLION for his 66"S causing me to list my 66 for 29 days guaranteeing a months worth of entertainment! Hey just out of curiosity, I am over 250 post...when you click on my name will it allow people to contact me?

Maybe Pierre is maximizing his sales first, before he unleashes several more rolls of 2006P non-magnetic onto the collecting community....
