There are just way too many varieties and I just can't deal with it. It's just so frustrating. I think Canadian coins are prettier but US coins are at least more consistant.

I agree! I see US coins way to frequently to enjoy most of them.

But why give up on your Canadian cent collection? Just because there are varieties out there doesn't mean you have to let them define your collection. Just try for dates instead of all the varieties. :)

TheForce, Will you be holding on to what you have or are you going to let them go to put the money towards other things? If it is the latter I am interested....

I'm assuming the varieties you're referring to are mostly from the Victorian period... is this correct?

Don't give up! Focus on dates and don't try to get all the varieties. Which ones are you having trouble finding? Actually, Canadian coins have far fewer varieties because they don't have to get the Philadelphia and D & S mintmarks American cents have.

My Canadian small cent collection is complete 1920-2011 with all varieties. It wasn't hard to do.

I haven't even started pre 65 cents (except a few Georgies) and probably will not. Modern cents are just crazy, you've got magnetics, non magnetics, blunts and points, then there are PL set only coins that are non circulating, letters pointing to or between denticals, it just doesn't stop. The rarest one I have is the 1999-P test coin.

Hmmm, I think it's the opposite too. US coins have so many identifiable varieties. I do prefer your dollar, quarter, and dime designs, to ours. The moose is especially nice I think. I don't care much for the Canadian nickel or cent design though.

If you ever visit Canada, just drop into a bank and buy 20 rolls. You should be good, except for the toughies: two varieties from 1965, one from 1985, and two from 2006. You'll also get a start on pre-1965.

What moose? The only moose on Canadian coins is the 2008 Canada Day colour 25-cent.

It's a Caribou, hesgut.

The Force, don't give up, matchbox was right it didn't take him that long to gather up the small cents, I have lots I could help you out with.

I'm giving up on 'em too, however, not in the same way you are. I'm upgrading my small cents to MS-66 from MS-65 when available!
