Penny4Me, I never asked the lady much about the MS 65 I bought from her. All she told me was that her father or husband passed away and that she just wanted to get rid of all of the coins to help pay some bills. Its gotta be just a little over 2 years since I purchased it from her.
The other coins she had were a few gold coins and a really nice looking 50 cent piece from 1921 that she wanted too much for ($700). Just messing around! There was no 1921 coin :) he he he!

Please don't tell me you got your raw ms65 off lady for $5, because she had no idea that it was rare.
It surprise me that all but 2 coins were graded after 2009, so no really knew these existed until 3 years after produced?

I wish I bought it for $5 bucks!
With shipping I believe it was around the $500 mark. I knew it was rare and the bidding started up so I sweet talked her and made her a high offer while the other bidders were messing around with $50 and $60 bids. Cut through the bull so to speak.
Looking back now,I have to say that I got it super cheap but at the time I was second guessing my purchase. Like they say...with big risk comes chance for big gain!

With those 2 being graded by 2009, do you still believe that one person has 40 or 50 in their posession?
I find it hard to believe. Why did they only grade 2 and then why grade another 30 or 40 in years to come? It just doesn't make sense.
There is a guy on this forum who claims he found the 2006 P non magnetic in his pocket change.

Absolutely....

It was 2.5 months ago that I advised this gentleman ( ebay 260812510154), on selling his 2006P non-magnetic MS-65.

He sold it for $3250, on my advice apparently, which I provided freely and honestly. Essentially, with one potential buyer in the $2000-$3000 range, during negotiations, I advised to not hold out for much more than $3500.

By the way darryl, very nice advanced move on your MS65 acquisition. I've pulled some interesting moves and deals, but yours is very impressive.

If you look at the 2006 Magnetic,Trend is less with also less coins certified. The buyer of this 2006P Non Magnetic MS-64 will be sorry when the dust settles if all the certified 2006P Non Magnetic owner (s) try to unload them..I for one will not pay more then Trend at this time.

What I find strange is the way they determine Trends on this coin.
No auction company has sold one of these pennies, none of the Major dealers have sold one or even seen one, only a few have sold on ebay yet the trend is $500 for a MS 65.
If this is true then the Trend they are using is based on what? 1 or 2 ebay sales? I thought they need many sales to determine a Trend for a coin!
I spoke with Bret from Canadian Coin News yesterday as he was following the same sale here and he said he has great respect for this coin and was impressed with the final sale price but is alway cautious about interpreting auction results especially on ebay.
Can someone please explain to me how the trends got to be on this coin!
SPP-Ottawa you are a knowledgable person and I have great respect with/for your opinions, can you help me with this one?

Trends doesn't use ebay auctions at all, apparently.

Which is silly if you ask me, as ebay is probably the only true free market there is.

So instead of a realistic "trends", we end up with an artificial construct price that has to be divided by two :).

With 70 coins being graded ms65-66 4-5 years later; these were all not in pockets. How many ms66 coins come out of pocket change being 4 years old!
They had to come right out of roll or sets to be all these high grades.
If they were in pockets, there would be many AU 4-5 years later. Anyone got a buddy working at ICCS for inside info?
Lets call in FBI & RCMP

danloss (and others interested in trends): Exactly. And even if trends is hypothetically CORRECT on day zero, by day 1000, they may have morphed into something totally different. Minor tweaking of the trends each month can't do the job.

Don't they have a "numismatic coin index"? This should effectively be a multiplicative factor in trends pricing. I also agree that E-Bay ought to be used (judiciously).

Regarding the 2006-P non-mag, I used to think these were all PL coins misattributed. However, somebody apparently found one in change. Off to the bank I go!

To those who wonder how "the pros" could confuse a PL coin with a BU coin, I only have to hang my hat on the 5 or 6 incorrectly labelled 2000-P cents. If this kind of screw-up occurs labelling the holders, I have much less faith that we're immune from virtually any kind of misattribution.

Ok, so we have accomplished a few things here. We have determined that even although no sales exist that we know of outside of ebay, the trends mysteriously show $500 for a MS 65.
WE also determined that the MS 65 coin is worth $500 divided by 2 and we have also determined (Danlos your going to like this one) that the FBI and RCMP are going to Shake Down ICCS!
Spinning the wheels so to speak!

LOL...we have established the trends on the 2006P non-mag:

MS64 - $1225
MS65 - $3250

I say we take bets on how many years it takes for "Trends" to reflect these current values ?! :)

Never. The first sale of over $3000 was probably treated like a unique error coin (i.e., wrong planchet). The MS-64 that was just sold was the result of a bidding war, the seller is playing this one smart, selling his lower grade coins first on open sites like ebay. I am sure more than a handful of prospective buyers have contacted this seller for his MS-65 and MS-66 coins, with the seller using this MS-64 sale as a benchmark.

If you really want one, my advice is to be patient. With over 60 coins certified in mint state condition, the price will eventually reach a more realistic level.
