Has coin grading eased up in that past 5 years? It seems more and more that the coins that I graded VF in the past now are accepted as EF. Perhaps I was too conservative in the past. Have you seen a change in the grading of our coins?

Grade creep,I don't like it.Due in part to cracking and resubmitting.

I see the change not just in ICCS, PCGS, NGC coins but in coins offered on ebay and even at the dealers. I have the publications that taught me to grade and I use that everyday to be fair to myself and others. Yet, the grading has gone lax in my opinion. Take a Victorian dime or nickel in VG. Shouldn't you see an outline of her hair or a partial of her ear. Instead, coin after coin, I see VG coins with flat surfaces - nothing but the outline of the Queen.

Cracking and resubmitting. How much would that effect population report do you think ?

It's only going to happen (resubmitting) in grades where a small leap makes a big difference in the value. I don't think it's a big concern here anyhow because the two grading companies don't actually back their opinion of authenticity with anything at all.
Grade the coin yourself, bargain at your belief point. If you can't make the leap from 20 to 30 when looking at a coin, price it as a 20 and negotiate from there. In other words as is often said, buy the coin and not the holder.

Some of the "grading" I have seen have been questionable to me. I remember when the AU grade did not exist, it was xf or then unc. So I will tend to be more strict on my grading but that is why grading is so different from one to another. Eye appeal to me is my key when making a purchase. Yes I look out for cleaned coins but if it has the look and fills my need I will consider it. I have seen many slabbed coins that are just plain ugly looking yet will have a ms65 grade, I'm not interested in the grade just the coin.

Good question "little Money" I wondered that myself when I saw a piece on the PCGS web site when a gentleman questioned the initial grade and resubmitted after cracking out the coin. I'd be curious to see what some of the dealers say.

Another reason why I buy coins from older dealers. I mentioned this in another thread.
I guess you can say its grade inflation. :)

There are some grades that are so hard to pin down. Like AU50-59 (or 58, I've only ever seen 50, 55, and 58). Sometimes I have trouble grading stuff from EF and up, but that's largely due to my collection being mostly lower-grade stuff.
