Hello all, just wondering your thoughts on this 1882 O Morgan. The red arrows point to the areas in question. The first is a mark in the 2, also is this a closed or open 2. The next is lines/ripples that extend from the beak to the arrows. It does not look like a clash, so at first I thought trails but I do not know if trails exist on Morgans. Thank you for the help. Edward M.
The "lines" you're curious about are in the planchet itself. They appear as part of the planchet production process, and sometimes survive the strike to remain on the coin's surface. Not uncommon on Morgans, and no cause for alarm.
I kinda like VAM-24 for this one, too. Make sure the mint mark location, the doubling on the 2, and the location of the date (relative to the point of the neck) match.
