i bought a 5 gr silver bar by engelhard it has emc on it why is it so rare and why

Can't say why it would be rare, other than perhaps Engelhard did not mint many of that size. Interesting that you mention 5 gram bar, as there is another thread made recently on this subject, here you go below....

check ebay, a lot of fractional bars cost a good premium. I believe the 5 gram engelhard goes for a fair premium

engelhards are sort of like the rolls royce of silver bars. Not that their silver is better, just more recognizable. Maybe a better example would be Tropicana oranage juice compared to the no name brand stuff.

Plus buying small fractionals always come with a premium. I highly doubt engelhard minted alot of these, so it can be considered a collectible as well.
