I'll never have it all but that's what I want. But my goal at moment is every dime for the last 100 years

I would agree with busthalf on the U.S. type set; he's got quite a complete list there. And, starting with a type collection, you may come across one or more series that really hit you, and cause you to suffer even more obsessions!

My ideal collection has already been listed by busthalf except I want TWO of each so I can view both sides at the same time.

Presently I have just completed the Capital Plastics 460B, old type, 20th Century Type Set in MS grades and am working on the 460A in MS, that one will take a while. I have five pieces so far, the Barber dime and quarter both 1892, an 1891 Seated Liberty quarter, an 1875-S Seated Liberty half and an 1887 Morgan dollar.

A year set of Morgans ideally all in MS-63 except for the big three years 1893-94-95 with as many CC's that I can afford.

A complete set of Walking Liberty halves 1933 - 1947 in MS

Another Franklin half set to replace the one I sold years ago.

A set of Kennedy's the 90% and 40% issues only no copper-nickel clads and once those are nearly complete I'm sure I'll find something else to pursue.

I think a full set of MS-63 Carson City Morgans would be awesome. Very obtainable too if you skimp on the 89-CC and get it in AU. My calculations show the set should run a bit less than the cost of a new car @ dealer pricing (which is pretty easy to find if you're patient):

AND - bonus - instead of a car worth zero in ten years this will probably double in value so just drive a beater, save those payments, and get yourself this set :)

---------------

78-CC (280) [63]
79-CC (5750) [63]
81-CC (485) [63]
82-CC (200) [63]
83-CC (190) [63]
84-CC (190) [63]
85-CC (595) [63]
89-CC (5050) [AU]
90-CC (700) [63]
91-CC (620) [63]
92-CC (1600) [63]
93-CC (4600) [63]
1900 O/CC (680) [63]

----------------

TOTAL: $20,940

my ideal collection would consist of a full date/mm Morgan set in grades of MS-66 or better.

That would be my ideal collection to.

Along with a 7070 using key dates in MS-65 or better condition.

jfransch: I have had the $50 octagonal and the $50 round both sitting in the palm of my hand at an auction viewing day, many years ago. They are heavy!

I like that idea fenton. But for me 79, 89, 92, and 93 would be XF at best.

A complete collection of US gold coins from the Charlotte, Dahlonega and Carson City mints. In the condition I like (AU-BU) I figured out this would cost more than $20 million to accumulate.

More realistically, my ideal collection contains one of every single type coin from 1796-1964 in optimal collecting grade. I'm about half way through...

I like the idea of one each "common" type in MS-65 or better. Start with an LMC :)

Canadian getting that 1893-S in MS-66 would be tough since none are known to exist. There is, however, one MS-67 specimen graded by PCGS. I repeat: ONE :)

I love the dark colored VF-XF Morgans. The dark color just makes the coin look better. And knowing that they were circulated is the big kicker for me. Just think of the history each coin has.

Perhunt29,

Just to follow up on the type set recommendation, take a look at Bryan1315's link, a really nice example...

It seems like no matter what I add to my collection I am never satisfied. I am always looking for something and when I finally get it, I try to get something better. I roll search when I am broke, but actively search out and buy coins when I have the money.

For me that has always been an irritation. Which is why I have so many duplicate sets. I start with one Album of Mercury dimes, then upgrad it and the excess goes into #2. Then from #2 to #3, #3 to #4 and on and on and on. Now just finishing #12 and thinking about #13. Same with many, many other coins. No end.
