Is there any way to preserve this in the image properties AFTER I've run it through a graphics program, ie. Gimp/PSE? I've noticed some of the posters images still have it but I lose mine after resizing or whatever. Nothing critical but it would be nice to have at my fingertips to refer back to when needed.

I use Paint.NET and it always retains the metadata created by the camera.

Thanks jbuck. I'll take a look at her. I was hoping it was just some sort of option I was missing in the software I'm already using. Sure would like to keep that data.

Never lose the original. Always "Save As" when postprocessing an image. That should become an automatic habit.

I just used the version of GIMP (2.6.10) installed on my Ubuntu box and it retains the metadata.

Keep in mind that not all formats support it. I always use JPG, but I know PNG and GIF do not store metadata.

HHHmmm....that's interesting jbuck. I must be doing something different. I'll have to go back and see what it is. Noted, SD and I think that's a good idea. I was focusing more on disk space, filing setup.

Dunno jbuck. Just ran one through Gimp and lost all the meta data using the method given by another CCF member:

select File/New - (choose your new image size to have the black background) say 800x800
then
select colors/invert - (that will give you the black background)
then
File/open (choose your coin image
then
tools/selection tools/elipse select (lasso your coin by dragging the elipse corners
then
edit/cut/
then go to the black background image
then edit/paste
then
save as.....

Looked at all the options under preferences but didn't see anything that looked like it might apply to meta data. I've been saving as jpg and other than the meta data, everything comes out great. The version I have is one up from your's, 2.6.11.

Gimp doesn't always save metadata, so it must depend on what operation you've performed on the image. I always save originals, so I never bothered finding the pattern.
